Since my academic life officially ended last week, I have every luxury of time to finally catch-up on my reading! I don't even know how I managed to squeeze in three books during January and February since they were loaded with thesis + defense and other requirements. But if you're a graduating college student, you probably know how tempting it is to slack off in the academic department just because you're so fed up with everything. Maybe this was the reason why I was able to kick-in my goodreads challenge. He he he.
The first book I read for the year was It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini. It was a lovely christmas gift by my block-mate. It was one of the many books I had on my wish-list. Oh boy. This was such a good book. There's always something about mentally-challenged characters in books that draws me in. While I was reading this, I realized how the main Character Craig was very much relateable. I was also sort of in an academic crisis that almost pushed me into a state of depression. I need more of these books. Gave this one 5 out of 5 in goodreads.
The second book I read was Hopeless by Coleen Hoover. In a nut shell, I did not like this one. In my opinion, it was very overrated. I did like the development of Sky and Holder's relationship I think it's one of the most unique relationship progress I've read in contemporary books. But this book though. It was fast-paced and all but every single page gave me an on-point prediction of what's going to happen next. So to say, upon reaching the climax of this book, I was not surprised at all. And I did not connect with the scenario at all. Tears did not even well-up in my eyes. There are better books. I gave this 3 out of 5 in goodreads, I think.
The last book I finished was Legend by Mari Lu. This was pretty good. It's a very cool dystopian novel. I kind of missed reading this genre. Sometimes I get sick of the plot, being just the same all the friggin time. But I can't help myself. These dystopian novels are my neutralizers whenever I read contemporary or classic books that can be too heavy, or even crappy books. These dystopian novels are quick reads and they always give me that satisfaction I don't get with other genres. Legend has been sitting on my shelf for quite a while so I figured I might as well read it. At first I was completely repugnant because of the military thing involved in the plot. I also don't like the fact the main characters are too young. I would have appreciated it if June and Day were probably three years older than their age in the book. Nonetheless I was immediately absorbed by the book after the plot twists came. Quite a good read if you're not expecting too much from a simple dystopian novel. Gave this 5 out of 5.
Moving on to my TBR pile as seen above, I have quite a few unread books. But I tell you, I bet these will last me until May. I'm kind of pre-occupied with other stuff so I'm not sure if I would be able to finish these books by the end of April, although I wish I would because I wanted to get myself some graphic novels after I get thru with these. At the moment I am about to finish reading Prodigy by Mari Lu, second book in the Legend Series. I don't have a physical copy because I cannot find the 399 peso paperback copy anywhere (yup, I'm that cheap). So I'm reading it in my phone (boo).

I've been reading so much non-fiction lately and haven't touched fiction in a long time. Maybe your books are a place to start... pick one up from the bookstore tomorrow since I am farm bound for the next few weeks. Thanks for the share, it's nice to meet avid readers :D
